iscover the refined elegance of Masi Costasera Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG — one of Italy’s most distinguished full-bodied red wines. Produced by the historic Masi Agricola S.p.A. estate in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica region (Veneto, Italy), this wine showcases the winemaker’s mastery of the appassimento drying technique and deep respect for terroir.
Origin & Vinification
The Costasera vineyard, located on south-west facing hillsides above Lake Garda, yields grapes of exceptional ripeness. The wine is crafted from a traditional blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara — with Corvina forming the dominant share. After harvest, the grapes are dried on bamboo racks (the “arelle”) in the classic Amarone tradition (appassimento), concentrating aromas and sugars while maintaining balance.
The result is a wine of great depth, structure and refinement.
Tasting Profile
In the glass you will find a deep ruby-red colour with violet hints. On the nose, aromas of ripe cherries, cooked plums, baked fruit and rich red berries appear, followed by elegant layers of coffee, cocoa, dried herbs and spice. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and powerful yet well-balanced, with fine tannins, a warm alcohol presence (typically around 15 % vol.) and a long, lingering finish of dark fruit, cocoa and spice.
Ageing & Serving
This is an Amarone built to age gracefully — though it can be enjoyed earlier for its vibrant fruit, optimal bottles often benefit from 5–10 years of bottle maturation or more for full complexity. Serve at around 18-20 °C in a large red wine glass to allow its aromas to unfold fully.
Food Pairing
The wine’s intensity and refined structure make it an ideal companion to richly flavoured cuisine:
-
Braised beef, venison or game meats
-
Aged Parmesan or blue-veined cheeses (such as Gorgonzola)
-
Dark chocolate desserts or mature fruit-tarts
Thanks to its bold character, it also stands magnificently on its own as a contemplative “wine for meditation”.
